You’re eager to start casting spells like a Wizard should, but after downloading Magic: the Gathering Arena, you realise you don’t have much to work on apart from the starter decks. You could spend a little money to acquire some Gems and exchange them for booster packs, but the smarter move would be to take advantage of the dozens of codes that give you free stuff.

These codes have been distributed over the past 2-3 years of Arena’s lifespan, and encompass different things, from booster packs, sleeves, to even experience points.

How to Redeem Codes for Free Packs, Sleeves etc. on Arena?

Redeeming the codes on Arena is easy. From the main screen, look for STORE in the top navigation bar. It should be next to PACKS or MASTERY. Click on it.

Once at the store, look for a query bar in the top right of the screen (highlighted below) and enter your code there. Capitalisation does’t matter, just note that there aren’t any spaces between code words.

3-Pack Codes for MTG Arena

These codes give you 3 (regular) booster packs from a particular set, so that will get you at least 3 Rare cards or better. Plus, opening these packs also add to your Wildcard progression. Every 6 packs opened will complete the “wheel” and you’ll receive a Rare Wildcard (it’s in gold colour) that you can redeem for any Rare card in the game.

There’s a new, exciting toy in MTG Arena – the Mythic pack! It costs more, but is it worth it to get a guaranteed Mythic Rare card? We run the numbers for you.

Note that these 3 booster packs are not the new Mythic booster packs that guarantee a Mythic Rare or Wildcard in it. All things considered, it’s still a great way to get started building your collection without spending a dollar. Once you’ve gotten some Rares/Mythics, form a deck and start doing the daily quests to start earning Gold.

Deck Codes for MTG Arena

Codes for free decks are especially sweet because it saves you the trouble of building a deck. When you are just starting out in Magic, deck building can be a daunting process because you don’t know what cards are out there, how to search for them, and how different cards work with each other.

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many free deck codes out there, but each of these will automatically a fully-functional deck into your deck list. The free deck’s power level may not be right up there, but it should contain a good handful of Rare cards that should help you down the road.

Once you’ve redeemed these decks, the best part is your can always delete it but the cards will forever stay in your collection. Use them to build different decks in the future.

Sleeve Codes for MTG Arena

In paper Magic, players put cards into plastic sleeves to protect their cards, but some of those sleeve backs are adorned with gorgeous Magic art. In MTG Arena, now you can have different artwork featured for different decks, configurable however you please. This is one area where Arena shines over paper, as you can swap out sleeves at the click of a button, plus you don’t actually have to buy them if you don’t want to.

As the game grows, the gallery of sleeves has ballooned – some can only be bought, but many others are given out for free, and these codes will get that collection going:

Free sleeves is a relatively new thing, hence you only see free sleeves from newer sets such as a Streets of New Capenna, and Strixhaven, with each featuring 5 different factions and corresponding sleeves.

Experience Codes for MTG Arena

On Arena, there is a rewards path every season (each lasting up to the release of the next Standard-legal set) called Mastery. In order to progress through this Mastery path, experience points (XP) are needed and this is often earned by completing daily quests, events, or just winning individual games.

However, without regular play time, you might find yourself lacking enough XP to complete the Mastery path at the end of the season. At times, Wizards of the Coast has released codes that give away free XP, sometimes out of goodwill but others due to unexpected problems and outages on the Arena servers.

Card Style Codes for MTG Arena

Card styles are cosmetic upgrades to actual cards on Arena. Receiving a card style doesn’t mean the actual card is added to your collection. In other words, if you don’t have the actual card yet in your Arena collection, you also won’t be able to use the Card Style after redeeming it.

Although Card Styles are not needed to play Magic, it does add an element of personalisation, especially since different players are attached to different cards.

Other Miscellaneous Free Codes for Arena

There are other free codes out there, but these come with strings attached, often as a bonus for a product purchase. For example, when you attend a prerelease event in your local game store (anywhere outside of Southeast Asia), there will be an extra card inside the kit with a printed free code for 6 booster packs:

These codes can only be used once, hence they are often tied to a purchase to ensure exclusivity. It’s a nice add-on if you’ve already been thinking of attending the next prerelease event.
